About Our Organizers

Layla Scott (she/her)

Layla Scott is from East Oakland, CA and started her climbing journey here at Pacific Edge Climbing Gym. Introduced to the sport she quickly learned new skills and techniques as a climber. Layla is an Engineer at the University of California, Santa Cruz currently researching Non-Potable Water Systems. An advocate for the environment in her work and for BIPOC communities to access outdoor sports in Climbing, Mountain biking and Sailing. Layla’s favorite climbing memory is a friend's trip to Castle Rock and climbing outside for the first time! Layla enjoys cooking, spending time with family and is a huge fan of Star Wars. Thank you for reading and welcome to the gym … Climb On!!

meg kan (they/she/any pronouns)

I’m Meg (they, she, any pronouns)! I love poetry, printmaking, practicing yoga, taking long walks and bike rides with a groovy playlist, reading and learning — always looking for book/podcast recommendations! Being relatively new to Santa Cruz, I’ve found so much connection and friendship through climbing. Through BIPOC climb night, I hope we can keep building community, work to make the climbing scene accessible and inclusive for BIPOC and QTBIPOC folks, and have some fun!

Community and Inclusion at PE:

At Pacific Edge, we strive to cultivate a welcoming and inclusive environment for all. We prioritize community care and safety, especially for those historically marginalized in climbing and outdoor spaces. This includes affirming and creating space for BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, women, disabled, and newcomer climbers.

All are welcome—respect, kindness, and accountability are expected. If you witness or experience harm or exclusion, please let a staff member know or email us at
management@pacificedgeclimbinggym.com. We are committed to addressing concerns with transparency and care while respecting the BIPOC space, the hosts, and attendees.
